Why do people go to Psychotherapy?
There is more information on the psychotherapy page as to
what symptoms bring people into therapy.
In some circles there can be a perceived stigma in
admitting you’re seeing a therapist. The idea is that
only people who are mentally ill or suffering a diagnosed
condition would need to go. This is gradually changing as
organisations start to see psychotherapy as preventative or
as part of a wellbeing package to support staff in a job
which has a high level of challenge.
From the individual perspective people are choosing to come
to therapy not just to heal old hurts but to reflect on and
explore who they are, what values they hold, what direction
they want to take and how that might give their life
meaning and purpose?
